Using Gradient Layer Masks in Adobe Photoshop
In my latest YouTube video I demonstrate how to use gradient layer masks in Adobe Photoshop. Layer Masks allow you to show or hide parts of a layer and are the best way to remove/hide backgrounds on an image so that you can add a new background. By using gradients with the layer mask you can control the transparency of the mask allowing for easy creation of soft edge vignettes blending one background into another. In this video I first remove the existing background from a portrait photo then add a new background that is a combination of a pure black background and a fantasy like forest photo. I think the end result is rather nice. So, here it is:
